In 2018, the Florida Legislature created the state-funded Reading Scholarship Accounts program to help public school students in third through fifth grade who need to improve their reading skills. Managed by Step Up For Students, a nonprofit scholarship funding organization, this program offers parents access to education savings accounts, worth $500 each. Using these funds, parents can help pay for their eligible student’s approved part-time tutoring, summer and after-school literacy programs, instructional materials, and curriculum related to reading or literacy.

Who is eligible? Third through fifth grade public school students who scored a 1 or 2 on the third or fourth grade English language arts section of the Florida Standards Assessment in the prior year.

Families can apply now! Applicants will need their student’s FLEID number and will be asked to upload their student’s Florida Standards Assessment report when applying. Scholarships will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parents can learn more about this state-funded program here. Or contact Meredith Hinchey at for more information.
