Our 6th grade STEM elective class has started a new WozEd kit on CyberSecurity. They are learning about real world cybersecurity problems, how to protect personal information, learning about responsible uses of technology and digital information, and about privacy and security.
Students started the lesson off by learning why codes are important for security. They saw a short video explaining the process that emails go through to stay safe and encrypted and they learned that URLs that have a lock are safer than those that do not. Students then played Interland to learn more about cybersecurity and hackers. Today they got to be "hackers" and tried to decipher codes. The first one was quickly solved but when security was added they found out it was not that simple to break the code.
